Prenatal Chiropractic — Webster Technique

Available at both our Hendersonville and Portland locations.

Pregnancy changes your body rapidly, and your pelvis bears the brunt of it. If you’re looking for a Webster Technique chiropractor during pregnancy, this is a specific chiropractic analysis and gentle adjustment designed to restore proper pelvic alignment during pregnancy — reducing tension, improving comfort, and creating a better environment for your baby to grow and move.

How the Webster Technique Works

The pelvis is made up of three bones and three joints — two sacroiliac joints and the pubic symphysis. When those joints are misaligned or restricted during pregnancy, it can create tension in the surrounding muscles and ligaments, contributing to lower back pain, sciatica, and restricted space for the baby.

The Webster Technique addresses all three joints of the pelvis through a gentle adjustment of the sacrum and pelvis, combined with soft tissue work on the round ligaments and hip flexors. This reduces pelvic tension that can cause uterine torsion and supports your body’s ability to function properly as pregnancy progresses.

The Webster Technique is most commonly used in the second and third trimesters, though it can be beneficial at any stage of pregnancy. Many women begin care in the third trimester when the baby is getting into position for birth, especially if the baby is breech or the mother is experiencing pelvic pain or discomfort.

This technique is considered very safe during pregnancy when performed by a Webster-certified chiropractor. It focuses on balancing the pelvis and reducing tension rather than applying forceful pressure, making it suitable for most pregnant patients.

Why Pregnant Patients Seek Webster Care

Most patients come in for one or more of the following:

  • Lower back pain during pregnancy
  • Sciatica
  • Pelvic pain or pressure
  • Round ligament pain
  • Breech presentation
  • Pubic symphysis pain
  • General discomfort as the body changes
  • Preparing the body for labor and delivery

The Webster Technique can be used safely at any stage of pregnancy, though many women begin care in the second or third trimester. Some patients start earlier if they’re experiencing discomfort, while others come in later specifically to help with baby positioning and labor preparation. Your care will be tailored to your stage of pregnancy and specific needs.

“Absolutely love these people. They have done amazing with me during and after pregnancy. They even helped my sweet new baby!”

What to Expect at Your Visit

Your chiropractor will start with an examination, then typically begin by reducing tension in the gluteus muscles and piriformis before adjusting the sacrum and pelvis. An activator tool may be used for greater accuracy and to reduce post-adjustment soreness. The final step addresses any tension in the round ligaments and hip flexors that may be contributing to discomfort or pelvic torsion.

You’ll be supported throughout the treatment with a pregnancy pillow that adjusts as you grow — and yes, most patients look forward to being able to rest comfortably on their bellies for a few minutes.

At each visit, your chiropractor will also provide posture recommendations and demonstrate individualized exercises and stretches to support your changing body between appointments.

The entire treatment is comfortable and safe for both you and your baby. Patients often say they wish they’d started sooner or tried chiropractic during previous pregnancies.

Webster-Certified Chiropractors

Webster Certification is a specific credential recognized by the ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association). Not all chiropractors hold it — it requires dedicated training in this technique and its application during pregnancy.

At Abrahamson Chiropractic & Wellness, Webster Technique care is provided by Dr. Dalton Scott at the Hendersonville location and Dr. Dave Snook at the Portland location.
