Pediatric Chiropractic Care

Available at both our Hendersonville and Portland locations.

Children experience physical stress from the very beginning — birth, learning to walk, falls, sports, heavy backpacks. Pediatric chiropractic care is a gentle, drug-free approach to supporting your child’s development and addressing common childhood conditions before they become bigger problems.

Common Childhood Conditions We Help With

Colic · Reflux · Ear infections · Torticollis · Breastfeeding difficulties · Digestive issues and constipation · Sleeping difficulties · Bed-wetting · Scoliosis · Sports injuries

We see children of all ages, including newborns. Care is always gentle and tailored to the child’s size and developmental stage.

Some conditions are more common at certain ages:

  • Infants (0–12 months): Colic, reflux, torticollis, breastfeeding difficulties, and sleeping issues are very common.
  • Toddlers & young children: Ear infections, digestive issues, and postural concerns often bring families in.
  • School-age children & teens: We frequently help with scoliosis screening, sports injuries, and posture-related neck or back pain from heavy backpacks or screen time.

How Pediatric Chiropractic Works

Chiropractic adjustments for children work the same way they do for adults — by correcting spinal misalignments that interfere with how the brain communicates with the rest of the body. When the spine is working correctly, that communication normalizes, and issues like constipation, trouble sleeping, or recurring ear infections can improve.

The difference is in the pressure. Dr. Ryan Abrahamson uses the same adjusting techniques with children as with adults, but applies roughly a quarter of the force — about the same amount of pressure you’d use to push your finger through two paper towels.

What to Expect at Your Child's Visit

Unless you’re bringing in a baby or toddler, Dr. Ryan will talk directly with your child first — asking what’s going on, what symptoms they’re feeling, and what’s important to them. The goal is to help kids feel comfortable with the process and involved in their own care rather than talked over.

Dr. Ryan is also upfront with parents about expectations. Some children experience a full recovery after a single adjustment. Others may feel a little worse before they feel better — similar to how someone who hasn’t exercised in a while might be sore the day after a run. And when he’s not sure chiropractic will provide the results you’re looking for, he’ll say so honestly.

Supporting Your Child's Care

In addition to chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Ryan uses needleless electrical acupuncture with pediatric patients, which has been particularly effective for children dealing with constipation and digestive issues.

“This was the first time I had ever taken one of our kids to a chiropractor, so I was definitely nervous, but Dr. Ryan did an incredible job and took such great care with our baby! She had reflux and after a few visits – all gone!”
