Dr. Ryan didn’t set out to become a chiropractor. He was on track for physical therapy school when a required clinical observation changed his mind — he noticed how much a PT’s success depended on patient compliance, and he didn’t want a career where his outcomes were largely out of his hands. Around the same time, a shoulder injury from playing volleyball led him to a chiropractor for the first time. Instead of treating his shoulder directly, the chiropractor traced the problem back to his neck — and resolved it in just a couple of visits. That experience changed the direction of his career entirely.
Born in the Philippines and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. Ryan earned his exercise science degree at Grand Valley State University before heading to Chicago for his Doctorate of Chiropractic from National University of Health Sciences in 2018. He took his first associate position in Danville, Illinois — wanting to learn the business side of practice that chiropractic school doesn’t teach — and it was there he met his now-wife. During COVID, the two of them took a leap of faith: they fell in love with Hendersonville, and in 2020 Dr. Ryan opened Abrahamson Chiropractic & Wellness with a clear vision — create a place where patients feel heard, not rushed, and where care is focused on finding the root cause of pain rather than just chasing symptoms.
He’s continued to expand his training since, with advanced certifications in the McKenzie Method, Graston Technique, Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Cupping Therapy, Pin and Stretch Technique, spinal decompression, and Dry Needling — allowing him to help patients with everything from everyday back and neck pain to more complex, longstanding conditions.
“My expectations for chiropractic care are very high. I had a wonderful Chiropractor that retired, and my search to find a new one led to frequent disappointment. At my first appointment with Dr. Abrahamson, after he adjusted my neck, I couldn’t hold back crying. I had no idea what I’d been carrying around and in an instant it was gone. Highly recommend this practice and will proudly continue being a patient.”
Outside the office, Dr. Ryan is a self-described foodie always hunting for the next great local spot, and fitness is a big part of his life — he works out six days a week, though these days he’s just as happy watching his young daughter grow. He’s taken up golf (by his own admission, not very well) and has won a couple of pickleball tournaments, though he’d play both more often if there were time.
Patients often say what they appreciate most is how much time he takes to explain things, and how genuinely invested he is in their long-term progress. Dr. Ryan especially enjoys working with patients who walk in skeptical of chiropractic care — he sees it as a chance to show them, visit by visit, that it’s neither scary nor a gimmick.
Fun fact: Dr. Ryan was a national champion — in collegiate dodgeball. He played at Grand Valley State on a team stacked with recruited baseball players with serious arms, where the usual “no headshots” rule of gym-class dodgeball was very much not in effect.
